I joined the NoFizzUSA 30 Day Challenge, after reading about it in the Gaston Gazette newspaper, to see if I could live without diet soda for 30 days. I had given up regular soda several years ago, but I still felt the need to drink something with caffeine and fizz.

I had read stories about how many people drink diet soda to control weight only to find that it tends to drive bad behavior in terms of caloric intake. I also wanted to get away from the salt, artificial sweeteners and other additives in diet sodas that have negative health implications.

I definitely picked up my water intake as a result of eliminating soda from my daily diet. The only thing that I have truly missed is drinking something that is carbonated. You see, I am not a big fan of carbonated water. Otherwise this challenge was relatively easy for me.

I began about a week before Feb 1 and I am continuing my abstinence into March. It may be too early to determine if I am a NoFizz “lifer” but I know that I am and will continue to live without soda in my diet for the foreseeable future.

I also find it difficult to drink just “plain water” as many who others struggle with it or soon discover once they begin drinking lots it. Flavored water does break up the boredom of “plain” water, but many of those contain artificial sweeteners, so read labels and be aware of what you are putting in your body.

My favorite part of the challenge were the emails from Bobby encouraging and recognizing our efforts. This was great. Keep up the good work!!
