Every day of our 30-day no-soda challenge, we’re going to send out some quick tips and information on ways to avoid soda, what to do once you’ve avoided it, alternatives to drink in its place, and more. Use these tips for motivation on how, and why, you should avoid soda! For more information on the challenge, or if you’re just beginning, click here. It’s not too late to join! We’d love to have you start at any point!

In Focus: This article was shared with us via Twitter yesterday afternoon. It’s a battle of bananas and Gatorade – to see which has a better ability to support an athlete in a variety of ways.
Scientists at the N.C. Research Campus in Kannapolis plan to pit bananas against Gatorade in the first comparison of their abilities to ward off inflammation and support immune function, as well as provide old-fashioned pedal power.
In September, the Dole Nutrition Research Laboratory and the Appalachian State University Human Performance Laboratory plan a $50,000 study to determine the effects of bananas vs. Gatorade on athletes during a long, hard workout. Cyclists who complete the month-long study will earn $300.
We’ve discussed before how much sugar (high fructose corn syrup and/or dextrose) is present in Gatorade – but there are also a fair amount of sugars (albeit, all natural) in bananas. It will be interesting to see, based on the research methods, which one performs better in the study!

Reminder: Remember that the NoFizzUSA celebration is THIS FRIDAY!! It takes place at 7:00 pm at Dilworth Billiards, 300 East Tremont Avenue, in Charlotte. The event is free, of course, but we ask that you RSVP here so we can have an idea of what to prepare for and who will be coming!
We look forward to seeing all of you, enjoying a drink together (of the non-soda variety, of course), reliving your no-soda stories, and meeting each other for what may be the first time! We are excited that NoFizzUSA can bring together such a diverse and interesting group of people and we can’t wait for Friday!
